We are jumping on the sustainability band wagon and trying our hands at growing some of our own food. Neither of us has ever done much in the way of vegetable gardening, so this is a real experiment.
The name of this endeavor came from the meditation labyrinth it shares space with.
Kitty, I saw this same type of set up done in a tree somewhere on Youtube. Good to see this locally done as well.
I'm growing camellias from seed if you want one? It might take 5 years before they bloom, could be anything as the bees cross pollinate camellias all the time. I buy our camellias at Cam Forest, Durham Garden Center and Carborro Southern States, 3 gallon plants work great.
Kitty, Yes camellias the bees love them. Make sure the flower has lots of stamens, some have no visible stamens hence not bee friendly. We have a 3 year planted tea camellia, the other one died the first year. The 3 yo plant has struggled and shows little growth.
Thanks, I'll keep stamens in mind when I add camellias.
What do you think are the issues for your tea bush? Amount if sun?? The drought-y summers we've been having? Our climate in general? I'll do some brain picking for placement in my yard when I'm shopping.

I would be delighted to have one of your seedlings in our yard.
DeleteI plan to get some tea bushes from Cam Forest this Spring.
I haven't been able to discover if camellias are good bee plants. It sounds like you think they are? yesno?
